“X” album release, #RealLifeStory heading to radio.

Happy 2016.

In celebration of 10 years of music and the anniversary of my very first radio single release, I decided to put all my past singles that never made it to an album all together on an album. Makes sense right? Sure. So here it is: X

( That’s Roman numeral for “10” in case my younger friends were confused ).

cropped-marika-22x22-12x12-copy.jpg It’s got some of my most favourite songs I’ve written in my career, including my very first top 10 singles “Radio” & “You Know I Will”, perhaps my most popular ones to date “Angel” and “This Christmas Time”, a new remix of Unstoppable by my talented friend, producer, and artist XAND3R, and a brand new single with the official release of  “#RealLifeStory”

It also closes that chapter for me on a decade, and as I look back on what has been quite a crazy ride, through the ups and downs, I am most grateful that 10 years later, I still get to make music, and that people – whether great or few – still want to listen. Though the journey did not go anything like I planned, I am so grateful to God that the biggest success in my life is the fact that I still love making music, and I get to live an amazing life alongside my husband of 15 years and 3 amazing children while doing it. That story is chronicled in the new song #RealLifeStory which I’m so excited heads to Christian radio stations across Canada next week. It seems only fitting that my closing chapter on a decade and the beginning of this new year release culminates in a new song that expresses the story of my adventures in living a life of Faith, Hope and Love and really, the roots of which I built my entire career. It’s been years of hard work, but it was the miracles that got me here. I also -through the journey- got to add credits like producer, writer, TV host and actor to my story, for which I am truly grateful.

To all those who have read the stories, bought the songs, stole the songs, texted when you heard the songs on the radio, tweeted me, FB messaged or commented, instagrammed, sent me a kind word, made youtube videos out of the songs, thumbs upped my videos, even for those who thumbs downed the videos lol, or, if I got the privilege of meeting you at one of my live performances: I do this for you – in a hope – that somehow you were and continue to be touched in some way, along the way, by the music I make and the life that I live. Thank you to you all.

And so we carry on…

Storyhive and the #RealLifeStory

storyhivepicOver the last couple of weeks, I have a been in a competition to receive 10 000 dollars to produce my next music video for my newest radio single #RealLifeStory. With minutes left of voting I wanted to say a few thankyous!

My friend Jesse Hutch is an incredible actor with so many great credits to his name ( he has acted with Candace Cameron Bure from Full House in the Hallmark movie Let It Snow, he was recently featured in an episode of Motive, and currently stars in Cedar Cove on the Hallmark channel ) He encouraged me to enter and he even came alongside as my team lead to direct the video. I am floored by his belief in this, in me, and his passion for us to win this!
Most importantly, Jesse is an amazing husband & father of 3, and we really wanted to show our industry the power of family, youth and community and all that we represent.
Jesse, thank you so much for who you are, your character and integrity in all of those even amongst some of the battles we have faced. You are a true friend, and your family is a treasure to me. I look forward to many more exciting adventures with you. Loreili, thank you for being in my life, allowing Jesse the time to work on videos and tweets and sharing his talents with us. Love you more than words xo

To Clifford Prang. Clifford is a comedian, a pastor, an actor, an event planner extraordinaire, also an amazing husband & father of 3, and my friend. Cliff, you have been an amazing support through this whole process too, and I hope we win this, and you win your spot in the #searchingforJeremiah video as that was epic. Dominique would lose out if he doesn’t choose you!
Thank you thank you thank you for always making me laugh, and for being a good friend to our whole family.

To Stacy and my kids. For the videos, the hugs, the fun and the adventures, thank you hugely to you all. This is fun because of you and thank you for making this whole voting thing – something that is always hard for me – so much fun with your awesome videos!

Thank you to Storyhive & Telus for being a huge part of empowering and encouraging artists like Jesse and I, and giving an opportunity to be a part of something bigger than ourselves! It is companies and communities like you that allow us to share our music and our art in hopes that we can be an encouragement to people along the way! Thank you for your emails, your advice, and for being real people on the other end of our communication. It has been a blast this far!

Lastly – I want to thank all of you – family, friends, fans & our extended Storyhive team who have voted, tweeted, shared, believed with us, prayed for us, and just been there. Your messages, emails, tweets and everything in between has been of huge impact to Jesse & I personally, and we will keep doing what we do regardless of the outcome! Thankyou all for coming on this ride.

Songwriting Challenge Week 2 – Write an explosive Pop Hit 🙂

This week has been crazy busy. I’ve been thinking all week how I should probably not do this challenge and I thought of giving up all together as I have had so many other things that I have allowed to take priority over this one. Then tonight, I sang my kids to sleep with my guitar. Something I haven’t done in a very very long time. In fact, my husband ( who isn’t a self professed musician ) took up the job of learning the guitar and singing gospel songs to them to sleep so I could “work on my music”. I realized for all those days that I stressed about my next hit single, and writing my next track that what I did tonight at my kids bedside was actually – something like –  ” working on my music “. It kind of changed me actually. So instead of writing Lily a note of ” sorry I’m out “, I decided that I’d write this blog instead. To not give up, but to try and stay in the game. Not sure how long I’ll stay, but today, tonight, I’m staying. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the chance to write a new big hit, so I’m posting this one. It’s mine, I own it, I wrote it. Hope you like it. It’s called RADIO.
